When our mental and emotional state changes, our breathing changes accordingly (and unconsciously). During breathwork, we use this connection in reverse to change our mental and emotional states by controlling our breathing with intention. Breathwork super-charges the body with oxygen and chi / prana (life-force energy) to break through physical and emotional blocks held in the physical body. This is a way to clear the resistance of karma and restore the full flow of life-force energy. This meetup group is designed to create community in Chicago through a monthly ecstatic breathwork session.
What is Ecstatic Breathwork? In these sessions, participants begin by lying down in a relaxed position. The breath coach guides the group to a state of rapid breathing, set to driving indigenous drumming and eastern-influenced electronic music. The rapid breath activates the body where energy is blocked, which may initially manifest as tingling, numbness or discomfort as those blocks begin to release. Participants often notice changes including energy vibrations throughout the body, temperature fluctuations (hot/cold), visions, memories of past lives, communication with guides and ancestors, spiritual insights, release of powerful emotions (laughing, crying), and a general sense of peace and euphoria. Ecstatic breathwork sessions typically last between 60-90 minutes.
I've recently moved to Chicago from Detroit, where I've been leading breathwork sessions since 2016. I'm currently completing my first year of Breathwork Certification training under one of the great breathmasters and rebrither, Dan Brule'. Here is a link to Dan's new book if you'd like to learn more about him. http://justbreathebook.com/
I'm excited to announce that I've located a venue to begin hosting monthly breathwork sessions. The first Chicago Breathwork meetup (titled Breathing with Friends) is scheduled for February 11. My intention is to try and hold a regular monthly session on the Sunday after the first full weekend of the month. I'm also available for individual or private breathwork sessions.
More about me: When I'm not engaged in breathwork, I'm a project manager at a major software company that serves Higher Education, and also a student at the Wright Graduate University for the Realization of Human Potential. At the University, I'm earning a Masters Degree in Transformational Leadership and Coaching, and certifications in Emotional Intelligence and Social Intelligence for Leadership and Coaching. I'm currently developing a new internal training and coaching program at my company to educate and facilitate the use of emotional intelligence (EI) in the workplace.
