What we’re about

For over eight years and nearly 200 events, The Chicago Cocktail Hour French Conversation Group has been a vibrant group of French speakers who meet in cool Chicago venues. The group is a mix of levels from intermediate (B1/B2) to native speakers. Beginners (A1), advance beginners (A2), will find the group to be a bad fit. Members are very active in the group and regularly attend. The group is open to 21+ only as we meet in bars (many sober people attend and are of course welcome). Native French speakers who want to improve their English accent and grammar are welcomed and encouraged to ask a native English speaker to flip flop the conversation between French and English. About half of the native French speakers have used the group this way and it's worked out wonderfully well. We are about helping each other under the camaraderie of enjoying language. We meet in fantastic Chicago venues both indoors and out. We are a friendly group from around the globe, non-pretentious, welcoming and zero attitude. While individual Meetups for this group are usually free - there is an annual membership fee of $12.00 to cover the fees charged to the organizer by Meetup to host this group as well as other costs incurred by the organizer. (The organizer pays taxes on these membership fees). There is a 30-day free trial so that you can check us out. Event size is typically 10-15 people. We have regulars who come to every event and those who come once a month. Over the course of events you will have a chance to meet a variety of friendly Francophones. Bienvenue!
