What we're about

The magic of the city happens as daylight is waning, when the light of the golden hour or blue hour mixes with the lights of the city and the traffic - that's when you'll see us out and about, like owls in the night, using our photographic sensibilities to home in on and capture the visual tapestry that is Chicago.

Whether you use a tripod or prefer to shoot handheld, with DSLR, mirrorless, point-and-shoot or smartphone, if you like shooting when daylight wanes or at night, this is the photo group for you. You don't need fast lenses, but it helps if you have at least one lens that's f/2.8 or faster, specifically for handheld photography.

We'll challenge ourselves to avoid blur and at the same time capture blur - each when it suits the subject and your interpretation of that subject, whether we're focusing on people or architecture, interiors or moving traffic, fountains or the people frolicking in them.

You'll be expected to shoot in RAW (or DNG) mode so as to bring out all the subtleties and recapture the full tonal range in the scene. If you only shoot JPEG but would like to shoot RAW (DNG), you'll need to process the image files. I'll be glad to recommend inexpensive software that is neither intimidating nor requires a long learning curve. If you don't want to make the effort - and only want to shoot JPEG - then this is not the group for you.

Join me on this adventure as we explore Chicago from a vastly different viewpoint than you would ordinarily explore this thriving metropolis. And have fun in the process.

Also, you're invited to post pics to our group's Facebook page, once you join: https://www.facebook.com/groups/86413943702... (https://www.facebook.com/groups/864139437028727/)

I'll bring my photographic experience to each photo adventure and workshop that I lead. I'm always happy to answer questions and offer advice, whether it's on how to take better pictures or what camera, lens, flash, or tripod to buy, what software works best, and how to use that software. There's practically no area of photography that I haven't explored, and I plan to share all that with you.
