We are planning a long weekend at Shades/Turkey Run State Parks in Indiana. This is a great area to spend a long weekend. We will be camping, hiking, biking, and canoeing. We will be camping at Shades from Wednesday, July 10 thru Sunday, July 14. You can come for the whole time, a couple of days, or just do a day trip. Shades/Turkey Run is about a 3 hour drive from Chicago. Here is the schedule for the rest of the week.

Friday, July 12:

We will be hiking Shades and Pine Hills. Shades State Park and Pine Hills Nature Preserve are great places to hike. The beautiful sandstone cliffs overlooking Sugar Creek and numerous shady ravines provide the backdrop for your journey through this nature lover's paradise. Some of the trails are considered "Rugged" to "Very Rugged". Please be prepared for stairs, ladders, etc. I am planning to hike around 7 miles.

We will be hiking Turkey Run. Turkey Run State Park is one of my favorite places to hike. Deep canyons nestled in the shadows of sandstone cliffs and peaceful hemlock groves harbor some of the most ruggedly beautiful hiking trails in the state. Some of the trails are considered "Rugged" to "Very Rugged". Please be prepared for stairs, ladders, etc. I am planning to hike around 8 miles.
Saturday Evening we will have a potluck at a Dell Shelter at Shades State Park. Please bring a dish to pass.

Information about camping.

We will be staying in individual sites at Shades State Park. You will need to book your own site. The cost is about $15 per night per site. You can have up to 6 people, 2 tents, and 1 car. There are showers and flush toilets but no electricity. There is a parking lot at the entrance to the campground for extra cars. If you are looking for a site mate or a ride, please post it in your RSVP. There is an entrance fee for $7 per car per visit. Therefore you will only need to pay this once. It is also honored at Turkey Run State Park. I will be staying at Campsite 32 from Wednesday thru Sunday. This campground will probably fill up. So booked you site early.
Reserve your site at: http://indianastateparks.reserveamerica.com/camping/Shades/r/campsiteSearch.do?site=all&type=9&minimal=no&search=site&criteria=new&contractCode=IN&parkId=570030&search=site
