Chicagoland Astronomy Club Message Board › Modine-Benstead Observatory Public Nights

Modine-Benstead Observatory Public Nights

A former member
Post #: 1
I would like to invite you to come to one of our public nights and view the heavens through our telescopes. We will have the observatory telescopes open and many of the club’s members will have their telescopes available to view through. For those of you looking at what type of telescope to purchase, this event is perfect for you. It allows you to look through a full range of telescope designs and sizes.

The Modine-Benstead Observatory includes two domed observatories as part of the facility. The main building includes the 16-inch Cassegrain telescope, an observation deck, library and meeting room. The smaller domed building houses our 14-inch Celestron telescope.

Public night open house events are held monthly from April through October and there is no charge for admission or parking. Your many questions are expected and welcomed, since part of our club mission is to educate and inspire each of you to participate in the world of amateur astronomy. Depending on what is up each night, we will view the moon, planets, and many deep sky objects.

The Racine Astronomical Society was established in 1956 to promote interest in astronomy among amateurs and the Racine area public. Membership is open to anyone interested in astronomy. The Modine-Benstead Observatory is located 4 miles west of I-94 at the intersection of County Highway A and 63rd Drive in Union Grove.

Over the years we have had many current and former club members from the Northwest suburbs. They have come up here for the great facilities and good sky conditions. We would like to invite you to come up and take a look through our telescopes.
