You know what’s missing from this picture? YOU!!!! Come join in the family fun and delicious eats at our Second Wood Dale Grove Picnic event! Last year storms threatened, but the clouds parted just in a nick of time! Those brave souls with a “weather won’t stand in the way of me and a plant-powered picnic” were treated to both the delicious food and gorgeous weather. We’ve put in our order for just the gorgeous weather this year…we’ll pass on the threatening storms! If you’ve not been to Wood Dale Grove Forest Preserve, you’re in for a treat! There’s a shelter, and plenty of picnic tables (appx 8′ wide…so lots of seating!) We even have a large grill to use! Last year we prepared tasty carrot dogs with lots of “fixins” for just a small donation. We had no idea how many folks had not yet tried that tasty little treat! They gobbled them all up! Think we should do that again??? We’d love your feedback!
The site overlooks a lake, and there are plenty of trees around as well. We've placed our order for a warm, sunny day, (fingers crossed) but we plan to gather, rain or shine! For a quick tour of the site, check out this quick video. For an overview of the Preserve, click here. On this map, our shelter location is toward the bottom of the page, just below "Grove Lake".
We are planning some activities...this is a family-friendly event, so kids are welcome. Just be aware that the site is very close to the lake, so parents should be extra aware of where their kids are all the time!
For the Potluck, please bring a whole food plant-based, no oil, a dish to share (and the recipe/ingredients used in case some have allergies or sensitivities). If you need suggestions, visit the recipe-sites page on our website at https://pbnm.org/resources/recipe-sites/ . You'll find plenty of great ideas! Some simple suggestions might be things like chilis, pastas, burrito-bowls, taco-salads, stir-frys, soups, pasta salads, finger foods, snacks, etc.
And we ask that you bring your own eating utensils. We make that request in an effort to reduce our impact on the planet by reducing the plastic going into landfills. We will provide a cleaning tub for your utensils so you won't have to worry about taking home soiled flatware.
DON'T FRET! If you're new to plant-based eating or are just "plant-curious", keep it simple! A tray of fruit and/or veggie chunks with hummus or guacamole is right up our alley! And by all means, BRING A FRIEND! Help us spread the word ... and the GREAT FOOD! It's good for our health and that of our planet, not to mention good for the animals!
