A fun packed extra-long summer weekend exploring the Yorkshire Dales from the small town of Settle. The trip will consist of four walks, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday using the train line from Settle up through the dales which should avoid us having to use cars
Saturday (Whernside 9miles/15km and circular), Sunday (Ingleborough, 10miles/16km), Monday (I Pen-y-ghent or Penyghent, 10miles/16km) Tuesday (Settle to Stainforth 8.5mile/14km).
Please note these hikes are yet to be finalised and may be done in a different order closer to the day depending on weather or transport conditions.
Start time will be approx. 10.15am from stations a short ride along the line from Settle.
The North York Dales is an upland area containing some of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the UK; the area was designated in 1952 as a national Park.
Lunch and Finish: Please bring a packed lunch and water for the walk. The hikes finish at about 5pm and include a 30 min lunch stop, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace.
Accommodation and Meeting
The cost for the long weekend is £45 & this includes the guided hikes with two hike leaders for four days with a limit of 40 people for each of the day hikes (accommodation, travel & personal expenses not included) but there are no hidden extras & this gives you the chance to stay according to budget or requirements.
To pay for the trip please contact the organizer (Colin) for bank transfer details & you will be marked as paid. Only those that have paid will be guaranteed a spot on the hikes. Hike cost is no-refundable unless someone else wants a spot.
Everyone will be encouraged to arrange their own accommodation, either camping, Youth hostel, or B&B. We will get together as much as possible after the hikes in the evening for food & drink socials which will be around the nearest town of Settle (A WhatApp group will be set up nearer the time).
There are number of sites for camping, B&Bs or hostel bookings, suggested you find accommodation as close to Settle as possible. Some of you may want to meet up Friday night before the four day hikes.

Transport will be by car sharing & a number of the group will have cars & there is a public transport option via train from London to Settle via Leeds.
BE AWARE THESE HIKES ARE OVER HARD TERRAIN & TRAVERSING SOME OF THE HIGHEST POINTS ACROSS THE YORKSHIRE DALES WITH OPEN ROCKY GRASSLAND, PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THIS.

Walking Safety: Walking is a great way to keep fit and generally very safe; however it does contain an element of risk. Before going on any of these walks you need to be reasonably fit and be prepared to be responsible for your own safety. You should wear appropriate clothing such as proper walking shoes (not trainers), warm & wet weather clothing & carry sufficient food & water.
