The walks
Itinerary: All the walks require you to drive to the start point, but they are all under 40 mins drive and the drive is a good way to see some of the surrounding area.
Monday 2pm
Castle Drogo and Teign Gorge: Approx 5.5 miles - 2.5 hours
This walk is on the way to our Abbey accommodation and is a lovely introduction to Dartmoor. The walk is short but exceptionally attractive walk, from the picturesque, 16th century Fingle Bridgeover the Teign, the route climbs along the rim of the Teign Gorge, passing the spectacular Castle Drogo, before plunging into the thickly wooded and steep sided gorge, returning to the bridge via the riverbank.
Two Bridges, Wistman's Wood and West Dart
Approx 11 miles - 6 hours or a shorter 6.5 miles version is available
This is a beautiful walk, with some climbing, nothing overly strenuous, but lots of wonderful scenery. Powder mills is a lovely, haunted, spot; typically Dartmoor. There are two sets of stepping stones on the first half of the walk that require confidence and good balance, however these can be avoided be either wading across the river or by choosing the shorter version of the walk.
Postbridge and Bellever.
Approx 6.5 miles - 3 hours
With stretches of moorland, a lovely riverside section at the start and finish, this walk makes an excellent overview of walking on Dartmoor.
Dartmeet
Approx 8 miles (5 hours) or half the walk 4 miles 2.5 hours
This is a delightful route with a rare mix of lovely Dartmoor countryside and secluded riverside walking. The walk is a figure of 8 so there is an option to only do half this walk as we will pass the cars at the halfway point, also the second half of the walk can only be attempted in good weather as after heavy rains the stepping stones on the second half of the walk can become impassable, if this is the case we will only do the first half of the walk.
The walk itinerary is only a guide and if the weather requires, the walk leader reserves the right to change the walks to routes that will be more accessible.
