We all know that languages are best acquired in authentic contexts. We are all busy and don't have time to sit down with books for hours and hours, only to find that what we are learning has no relevance to everyday life. So, Chinese On The Run is for beginners who want to learn to communicate in authentic situations. Every two weeks on a Sunday morning, we meet in Chinatown, New York and you are given a list of vocabulary words that we will practice and then set off to either a restaurant, cafe, park, gallery etc., to use the new language in a Chinese-speaking setting. Attendance is $20 for each event. You will receive vocabulary for the event and support with your learning. If we are scheduled to attend a restaurant/cafe, the cost will be paid upfront online when you RSVP. For eaters the cost will be $20 and for non-eaters (tea drinkers etc.,) the cost will be $10. (payable prior to the event) This will cover food pre-ordered by me. (vegans and vegetarians will have options)
The Chinese On The Run group is for beginners only. (Level 0-3) It is not suitable for native speakers or advanced speakers. Have fun, practice immediately and get feedback to improve your language learning. Join us!
Come along to this Chinese class as we prepare to visit a restaurant in Chinatown. We will learn some basic greetings and phrases to use when eating out. All materials are provided.
This is the first class in a series of 3 that will culminate in a dinner together at a Manhattan restaurant. There will be plenty of time to rehearse new content and you will feel confident in speaking to native speakers in no time. The class is very relaxed and informal. Great opportunity to also meet others who are learning Mandarin!
Location is 37th Avenue/84th Street in Jackson Heights. (#7 train - 82nd Street station)
