The objective of this meetup group is to promote development of Chinese culture appreciation.
We plan to hold quality monthly (or more frequent) meetings run by a member from our club each time. He/she will pick an interesting topic, prepare 15-30min presentation to share with us. The meetings will be held in English with translation of terms as necessary.
There is a growing number of expatriates showing an interest in Chinese culture, so this meetup is to help in the sharing and exchange of cultural knowledge and experience.
Meeting contents will include language [Cantonese/Mandarin], literature, art, travel, history, architecture, astrology, feng shui, philosophy, food. The group will have routine meetups combining social, lecture and sharing in different interesting topics.
If you are keen to know more about Chinese culture, including Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology and Tai Chi, to find a proper and better way to learn or understand more, new in town, wanting to meet more people with similar interests, you should sign in.
There will be occasional outings to architectural and historical sites for Chinese culture appreciation, and trips to China as well.
As a footnote, both the founding organiser (Amy Chan) and current organiser (Roger Ho) were Hong Kong born. Amy has worked in Singapore and studied in UK. Roger also studied in UK and has lived and worked in seven territories in Europe and Asia Pacific. Amy has practiced Feng Shui for several years, and Roger teaches Tai Chi and Chinese Astrology.
Many foreigners told me Cantonese is one of the most difficult language in this world. :) I agree it is in different system as most of the western languages but indeed not as hard as you think. I would like to do it for fun and encourage more people to speak Cantonese. Show your interest in this kind of gathering, ideally limit to 10, will see the feedback.
