Retropolitan (Lincoln Road) has a 2-for-1 main meal special on for the month of January. https://www.facebook.com/pg/RetropolitanSocialClub/menu/?p_ref=pa We've been here a few times and always have a good meal, often finished with the dessert fondue. Lovely retro decor. Most mains are $22-28 with a couple over $30; pair up with someone ordering a similar-priced meal and pay about half for your main. (The cheaper of the two mains will be the free one, so it'll be half the cost of the more expensive main.)
Note: Event kicks off at 730pm, but you need to be there earlier to reserve a space. When the first of us arrive, we'll advise where we are located. We're usually pretty easy to find (as we normally sit close to an aisle or edge) but it will help if you have been to a prior event and know what we look like. If you let the organizers know your cell phone number, we can help direct you via text as well as updates here via 'comments'. From the CCC website: A Christchurch tradition! Featuring the spectacular Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, the Sparks 2019 programme will range from traditional classics to modern day favourites and a few surprises in between. Sparks pre-show entertainment starts from 6pm. Pack a picnic or grab dinner from one of the food trucks at the event, plus the Night Noodle Markets will be open from 1pm on the day. If wet, Sparks will be postponed to Sunday 17 February in North Hagley Park. For those who haven't been before, fireworks finish off the evening. Night Noodle Market will be open from 1pm that day. (There will likely be other food trucks available as well, or you can take a picnic.) https://www.nightnoodlemarkets.nz/christchurch/ Note: if you show up closer to the start time of 730pm you may not be able to sit with the group as it will be difficult for those getting there early to save spaces.
