Improv Drop-in: Scenework
Every week we work on different exercises and techniques of improvisation, with a focus on creating true-to-life characters, in a fun and friendly environment. Improvisation is fun and social. It's a great way to gain confidence in public speaking and improve your acting technique. A typical class will begin with a fun and energising warmup, followed by some skills-based exercises, and then more open scenework. Whether you've been improvising for a while, or it's your first time, you'll learn a lot from this class. And - It's fun! FIRST CLASS IS FREE! Regular cost: $15 /class OR buy a 5 class discount card for $50 ($10/class) NOTE: There will usually be more people in the class than showing on the Meetup, as many of the regular attendees "forget" to sign up. :)

What we're about

Improvisation is a lot of fun, and a great way to build confidence and learn more about yourself. The style of improvisation that we do is all about connecting, engaging, and being in the moment. It's more about being human than being humorous, and even though we aren't aiming for comedy, it's often the outcome.

Hosted by a world-class teacher, with over 30 years experience, this is a weekly drop-in workshop for anyone interested in long-form improvisation.

We will focus on improvisation that engages in the moment to create scenework that can range anywhere from heartbreaking to hilarious.

No previous improv training is required, but a performance background of any kind is a plus (acting, singing, dance, etc).

For those who attend regularly, and build their skills, there is also the potential to be invited to perform in shows with Impulse Theatre (http://impulsetheatre.co.nz/).
