Hey everyone!

Next meetup will take place on September 26th.

We are planning on starting at 6pm with some Networking and snacks time. The event will take place at Yoobee School of Design.

Here's the current event schedule:

18:00 to 18:30 - Networking

18:30 to 19:00 - Richard Lovell will be sharing about the challenges that we face around User Experience Design in education. Demystifying what UX is and making the UX design process feel natural.

19:00 to 19:30 - Dr Chandra Harrison - The maturity of digital accessibility in New Zealand

While many other western countries are rallying behind the call for inclusion in all things digital, New Zealand businesses often still refuse to see the value of implementing accessibility as part of their process rather than an add on. Our legislation could be better, we don't have enough properly trained specialists and most organisations just don't want to invest in accessibility. Chandra will discuss how we can all play a part in moving the maturity of accessibility from informal processes through to true integration and innovation. She will also explore some case studies of companies making positive changes and what is motivating them to lead the charge.

Chandra Harrison returned home five years ago after 11 years travelling the world educating people about the joys of user experience and accessibility. Armed with a PhD in Human Computer Interaction she has worked as a user researcher for the likes of Siemens, BBC, Nokia and Skype and as accessibility consultant for the likes of Sainsbury's British Gas and BBC. A published author and conference organiser Chandra was also the A11y rep and President of UXPA UK for four years while in London. Now living in Christchurch she is freelancing as Lead Digital Accessibility Advisor for Access Advisors, an initiative of the Blind Foundation, and helping organisations understand the benefits of A11y.
