Core Data: It’s Not so Scary featuring Jonathan Lepolt
One time in a crowd full of developers I yelled out “Core Data!” just to see what would happen. A few people ran away, some looked at me and scoffed, others seemed confused but interested, and even fewer people gave me a nod and a smile. It was at that moment that I realized there were a lot of misconceptions about Core Data, and I wanted to clear them up. I’ve heard excuses like:
- Core Data is hard to understand and work with
- Core Data is antiquated and irrelevant
- Core Data doesn’t integrate well with SwiftUI
- There are plenty of better 3rd party solutions out there for data persistence
It’s misconceptions like these that are giving Core Data a bad name! In this talk, we’ll build a simple iOS app from scratch using SwiftUI and Core Data. We’ll utilize some basic, but important features of the framework demonstrating how to add, update, and delete objects. Hopefully, together we can bust the myths surrounding Core Data and bring some attention to how great and useful this tool can be in your apps.
Bio: I’m an iOS developer passionate about building cool stuff using great tech. I like theme parks and roller coasters, and doing things outside with my family. My favorite drinks are bourbon, beer, and coffee (but not at the same time).
