Getting Going in Space - Hands On.

Details

You've heard about the official UK funding and opportunities by Satellite Application Catapult and a couple of entrepreneurial activities in the space industry on KickStarter in our last meetup, first hand at the Open Data Institute. It was a great success with synergies between the speakers, community and the venue.

This time we will be at the well established British Interplanetary Society talking about funding for even the widest space project and a hands on developer's perspective of a spacecraft, as part of a crowd funded open sourced space project (kickSAT), which will be launching at the end of 2013. For those of you who are interested in open hardware, software and sensors, that's what the Sprites are made of!

Curiosity is all you need. Come along!

Agenda:

19:00 Doors Open

19:05 Intro

19:10 Alex from SpaceGAMBIT UK will give us an overview on SpaceGAMBIT UK's vision on making Sci-Fi projects, like space colonies, real. SpaceGAMBIT’s mission is to move humanity towards a spacefaring civilization - by funding and helping relevant open-source projects done through teams from hackerspaces, makerspaces or similar community spaces.

19:30 Laurence from the British Interplanetary Society (BIS) will give us a retrospective on the low down detail on KickSAT project at the BIS. KickSAT is a crowd funded, open sourced (hardware and software) space project for launching hundreds of tiny spacecrafts (Sprites) into low earth orbit. Laurence is going tell us all about the details on developing spacecraft (Sprite) software and everything else from receiving the KickSAT development kit to getting the code ready for launch! It's a unique opportunity to hear what a citizen space project really is like and would no doubt be of great interest to all those who are interested in getting involved in citizen space project forward going.
