Our purpose is simple:  To provide access to the British mountain environment for all.  Irrelevant of social, economic and cultural background and irrelevant of your mountain/hiking experience:  All skill levels are welcome.
This group was started to offer more adventurous trips, with small groups, from London to all areas of the UK.
Summary of what to expect on City Mountaineering trips:

Snowdon and the Welsh Matterhorn

Pre-determined tube station

£315.00

*TRIP FULL*

Two days of relaxed hiking in Snowdonia National Park. Ideal for anyone that wants a relaxing weekend with good company and beautiful scenery.

Return train travel from London; two nights’ hostel accommodation; breakfast and lunches and two days of hiking led by a qualified Mountain Leader are all included in the cost of this trip so you don’t need to worry about a thing!

We will take an easy hike to the summit of Snowdon, on a route that’s well away from the hoards on the tourist tracks, ending the day comparing photos in the warmth of a traditional pub.

The next day we’ll ascend to the summit of Cnicht; a mountain known as the Welsh Matterhorn for its profile that resembles its Swiss namesake!

‘Enjoy, not Endure!’

The purpose of this trip is to provide an enjoyable and relaxing experience in the mountains. It won’t be about testing your strength and endurance.

This trip has been specifically designed for people with little to no experience of hiking and is the perfect introduction to the mountains. That said, this is also a trip that even the most experienced mountaineers will enjoy!

Looking for something to do over the Christmas period? Want to do something a little different away from the city?

Then look no further! - Here is your solution!

Hike the wild areas of The Scottish Highlands and stay in a beautiful location next to a remote loch to test Santa's ability in finding you.
This trip includes a return trip on The Caledonian Sleeper train from Euston, direct to The Scottish Highlands!

With sleeper train included and staying in an eco-hostel (powered by hydro-electricity and solar) this Christmas adventure has negligible incremental cost to the environment!

***

We will have a full week in Scotland and the specific itinerary will be decided when the weather and ground/snow conditions are known.

Don't worry, there are plenty of amazing mountains and hikes in the region and the open itinerary will ensure that we make the best of what the season throws at us!

An example itinerary is as follows:

• Meet at Euston train station on the evening of Wednesday 21 December and board the Caledonian Sleeper Train (option of having a bed in a twin room, or an airplane-style seat) to Corrour - the highest and most remote train station in The UK.

• Thursday 22 December - You will be woken by the train guard and told to prepare to disembark the train at the requested stop. Here you will be met by your guide and led the short distance to your accommodation for the week (single-sex bunk rooms). Once settled, you'll have a briefing of what to expect for the forthcoming adventure and an opportunity to explore the local area.

It may be winter conditions, it may not... I have all the kit for all conditions :)
We will then return to the cottage for dinner and drinks

• Friday 23 December - After a hearty breakfast we will hike directly from our accommodation to the summit of a local munro (Scottish mountain) before returning to our accommodation for showers, dinner and drinks.

• Saturday 24 December - Head out to climb our second local munro before heading back to the accommodation for pre-Christmas supper and mulled wine

• Sunday 25 December - Wake up. Open any gifts that santa may have left us. Go on an easy hike to a local peak near the accommodation on Christmas day to build an apetite for the feast that awaits! Return to the accommodation for a huge Christmas dinner, drinks and merriment

• Monday 26 December - It's time to work of the over-indulgence of Christmas and work off those roast potatoes... We will hike another local munro before return to the accommodaiton for Boxing Day treats (Bubble and Sqeak! - Yum!)

• Tuesday 27 December - Our final day will see us hiking another local hill to top off a fantastic week in The Scottish Highlands.

• Wednesday 28 December - A day to chill out and take in the views of the local area one last time before an evening walk to the train station and your departure back to London on The Caledonian Sleeper Train (option of bed in twin share rooms, or airplane-style seat)

• Thursday 29 December - Arrive back in London Euston refreshed after a night on the train... Back just in time to enjoy the New Year celebrations!

  • The beauty of this trip is that you can pick and choose which hikes you join... If you fancy resting and simply reading in the sun-room of the cottage, that's fine :)
  • There is also no driving at all throughout the trip

***

Winter ascent of Ben Nevis - No days off work!

Fort William

£100.00

*Optional Sleeper train from London to Fort William*

You may have climbed it in the summer, but an ascent of Ben Nevis in winter provides a unique and very different mountain experience, with snow and ice transforming it into one of the UK's most majestic mountains.

Please note that this is a tough trip involving a very long day out on the hills. A good level of fitness is a must, although no experience of hiking in winter conditions is necessary.

To fully appreciate and enjoy a winter ascent, it is best to be properly prepared for the winter environment - with an early start, good crampon technique and the right equipment all helping to give a truly memorable mountain day.

This trip is suitable for anyone, regardless of winter hiking experience - A Full day of winter skills tuition will be provided prior to attempting the hike to the highest point in The UK

If you already have winter hiking experience, this day of tuition will be great to hone your skills and reacquaint yourself with the skills you've already learnt

***

No prior winter mountaineering experience is required and full instruction will be provided on the use of the equipment and the skills required to keep safe in the winter environment
