ABOUT CITY MOUNTAINEERING

London's best and most exciting mountaineering group.

This is a group for anyone interested in walking, hiking, rock climbing, camping and anyone with a sense of adventure to experience the wonders of the British mountain environment in a relaxed, fun and safe manner.

Our purpose is simple: To provide access to the British mountain environment for all. Irrelevant of social, economic and cultural background and irrelevant of your mountain/hiking experience: All skill levels are welcome.

This group was started to offer more adventurous trips, with small groups, from London to all areas of the UK.

Summary of what to expect on City Mountaineering trips:

• All trips are lead by passionate, qualified and highly experienced mountaineers (Qualified Mountain Leaders and Climbing Instructors)

• All trips, unless otherwise stated, are fully inclusive of return travel, food, accommodation and guided hiking (all you have to do is turn up at the London meeting point and enjoy!)

• Small group sizes (maximum 8 people per trip), this enables:

• Best quality support

• Trip flexibility (to provide a true wilderness experience)

• Get to know your fellow mountaineers better than in larger groups

• Allow you to realise potential that you may never have thought possible

• Reduce the human impact on the natural environment

I have taken drastic steps in my personal living arrangements to ensure the price of trips as affordable as possible and a proportion of all money received for every trip is donated to (a) Wilderness conservation groups and (b) Mountain rescue teams. Formed almost entirely with volunteers, both groups rely on public donations to maintain their service, allowing us to enjoy this wonderful environment*

We look forward to exploring and sharing the Great British mountain environment with you!

Snowdon and the Welsh Matterhorn

Location visible to members

£295.00

Two days of relaxed hiking in Snowdonia National Park. Ideal for anyone that wants a relaxing weekend with good company and beautiful scenery.

Return travel from London; two nights’ hostel accommodation; breakfast and lunches and two days of hiking led by a qualified Mountain Leader are all included in the cost of this trip so you don’t need to worry about a thing!

We will take an easy hike to the summit of Snowdon, on a route that’s well away from the hoards on the tourist tracks, ending the day comparing photos in the warmth of a traditional pub.

The next day we’ll ascend to the summit of Cnicht; a mountain known as the Welsh Matterhorn for its profile that resembles its Swiss namesake!

‘Enjoy, not Endure!’

The purpose of this trip is to provide an enjoyable and relaxing experience in the mountains. It won’t be about testing your strength and endurance.

This trip has been specifically designed for people with little to no experience of hiking and is the perfect introduction to the mountains. That said, this is also a trip that even the most experienced mountaineers will enjoy!

A Highland Christmas! - Cottage accommodation

Inverness Airport

£795.00

Looking for something to do over the Christmas period? Want to do something a little different away from the city?

Then look no further! - Here is your solution!

Hike the wild areas of The Cairngorms National Park and stay in a beautiful mountain-side cottage to test Santa's ability in finding you

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

We will have a full week in The Cairngorms National Park and the specific itinerary will be decided when the weather and ground/snow conditions are known.

Don't worry, there are plenty of amazing mountains and hikes in the region and the open itinerary will ensure that we make the best of what the season throws at us!

An example itinerary is as follows:

• Meet in Inverness in the morning of Tuesday 21 December and drive to our hillside cottage accommodation for the week - we will then have a full trip briefing of what to expect for the forthcoming adventure!

• Wednesday 22 December - Head out to climb a local peak directly from our cottage. This will be an easy hike to enable us to get our mountain legs, ready for bigger mountains later in the week.

It may be winter conditions, it may not... I have all the kit for all conditions :)
We will then return to the cottage for dinner and drinks

• Thursday 23 December - Drive a short distance to climb a local munro (Scottish mountain) - perhaps the iconic Lochnagar on the Royal Balmoral Estate - before returning to the warmth of the cottage for showers and dinner

• Friday 24 December - Head out to climb yet another local munro - perhaps Ben Avon - then head back to the cottage for pre-Christmas supper and mulled wine

• Saturday 25 December - Wake up. Open any gifts that santa may have left us. Go on an easy hike to a local peak near the cottage on Christmas day to build an apetite for the feast that awaits! Return to the cottage for a huge Christmas dinner, drinks and merriment

• Sunday 26 December - It's time to work of the over-indulgence of Christmas and work off those roast potatoes... We will hike another local munro, or perhaps go skiing? - before return to the cottage for Boxing Day treats (Bubble and Sqeak! - Yum!)

• Monday 27 December - Our final day may see us drive to Braemar, where we will take an easy hike to a local peak before heading to a local pub for dinner, to top off a fantastic week in The Scottish Highlands.

• Tuesday 28 December - Depart our accommodation and make our way back to Inverness for your return home (expect to arrive Inverness at around 1pm)

* The beauty of this trip is that you can pick and choose which hikes you join... If you fancy resting and simply reading in the sun-room of the cottage, that's fine :)
