You're invited to Civic Tech Vancouver’s first event. Free and open to all, this meetup will bring together people from all walks of life to connect, learn, share and collaborate. This first event we’ll be setting the direction of the group for the weeks and months to come.
We’re not the first group like this. There are already civic tech communities in places like Toronto, Ottawa, and Edmonton. We’re inspired by what those groups are doing to bring together people over a common interest in civic issues, looking at them together through the lens of tech. We’re excited to get things moving here in Vancouver.
You do not need to be a ‘techie’ to attend. Everyone is welcome to participate and contribute to civic good through technology, data, design, policy, advocacy and citizen engagement. Join us!
To help kick us off, Geoffrey Daniel, a civil servant turned Digital Strategist for Yellow Pencil, will be giving a talk:
We Need Us: The Public Sector Needs Help, Likely Yours
Geoffrey shares from his experience working with municipal governments for over 15 years. Having worked within large bureaucracies for so long, he’ll be offering us some insight into what the decision making process can look like, and what we can do from our end as citizens to help encourage our brothers and sisters working in government.
