Key Question:

How is technology within the construction industry evolving to support energy efficiency policies from governments?

The Background:

British Columbia has adopted an ambitious energy efficiency policy for new construction called the BC Energy Step Code, driving demand for new skillsets and mainstreaming high-performance building components.

Compared to other sectors, the construction sector in Vancouver and British Columbia has been slow to undergo digital transformation and meaningful collaboration with the thriving tech sector, but a nascent contech (construction technology) industry is emerging in Vancouver.

To speak to these changes, we're joined by three speakers at this event.

George Benson, Donovan Woollard, Jenna McNeil, and Lara Azarcon:

George is going to set the stage, speaking to the history of Vancouver’s pioneering approaches to planning and built forms. He'll then share some of the highlights of the VEC's green building market study for the City of Vancouver.

Lara is going to showcase the research she's completed to fully map out Vancouver's contech sector. She'll first define how Vancouver compares to the global landscape, followed by a summary of her findings and the scope of research after mapping out the Vancouver contech ecosystem.

Donovan will then introduce OPEN Technologies' Shift product and the problem that Shift solves within the context of George and Lara's discussion. There will then be a live demo of the tool and the audience will then have a chance to ask questions to all three of the presenters.
