Hello friends! If you’re interested in technology, economics, Cleveland, or any combination of these things, then you should come join us! We offer engaging discussion, guest speakers, networking opportunities, and food.
The ultimate goal of our meetup is to provide a space for people to gather and explore the vast intersection of technology and economics, and how we as a community can become more aware of this overlap to make Cleveland a better place.
Join us for the second Cleveland Tech-onomic Development meetup at The MidTown Tech Hive on 5/30 at 6PM. The parking lot is on E. 69th Street between Euclid Ave and Chester.
The second meetup will be focused on the tech-onomics of education.
Our speakers/presenters will be:
— Peter L. Hinrichs - Senior Research Economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland will be discussing his work on demographic diversity at college (or lack thereof) and its effects on student outcomes, like graduation rate (I strongly recommend checking out his work! https://sites.google.com/site/peterlhinrichs/research).
— Jake Taylor - Regional Manager for TEALS (Technology Education And Literacy in Schools, check it out https://www.tealsk12.org/) will be discussing the current state and bright future of technology education in high schools, and how TEALS plays a role in its progression.
— Nigamanth Sridhar - Dean of Graduate Studies and Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Cleveland State and Co-Organizer of CS for Cle (check it out! https://www.nsf.gov/cise/csbytes/newsletter/vol5/CSEdWeekClevelandFeature.pdf) will be discussing how technological advancement has impacted education and how technology education is changing at the college level.
Expect the agenda to be roughly as follows:
— 6 to 6:30/6:45 for arrival, networking, food
— 6:30/6:45 to 8:15/8:30 for presentations (each talk/presentation should be 15-30 minutes with a 5-10 minute Q&A period to follow each presenter)
Should be an exciting, engaging, thought-provoking meetup! I hope to see you there!
