What we’re about
In 2020, as dystopia spills into real life, it seems the world can’t get enough of blockbuster dystopian fiction, either from Hollywood or bestselling novels.
But we are #OverDystopia.
Since lockdown started, a warm and friendly bunch from around the world have been meeting twice a month in quiet, creative rebellion. We are being bold, imagining a future we want, that thrives within planetary boundaries.
Each month we take a climate solution from Project Drawdown; we explore, discuss and inspect it and then we write hopeful stories, projecting ourselves into the future as though that solution were already so. As though tidal power were mainstream, as though all girls had access to education, as though all our buildings were made from sustainable materials.
We are not scriptwriters, published authors or professional creators (mostly) – weare global citizens reclaiming the oldest form of learning there is: the story.
We are not waiting for someone else to write the next chapter. We are writing it ourselves.
You are very welcome to join us.
The Cli-Fi Imaginarium is now open. Come and explore.
Now open for submissions to members: https://forms.gle/xuzWrfHAs4xbgPQ7A

More details about each session:
Every second and fourth Monday @ 7pm UK on Zoom.
Session 1: Deep dive.
This one follows the format of our first 3 sessions. We'll spend some time getting to know the climate solution of the week, have a quick warm-up exercise then write for 20 mins. Then we'll head into breakout groups to share an excerpt of our writing with 1 or 2 other people. (Optional extra to stay on at the end and read yours out to everybody).
Session 2: Honing your skills.
Using our first drafts from Session 1, we will hone our writing and editing skills to make our stories even better. Each month we will focus on a different principle of storytelling and apply it to what we have written. There will be one or two writing exercises to practice our skills, and the chance to start revising our stories. Questions and lively discussion are always welcome!
The fiction exercises will be led by Clare Diston, short story writer, book lover and total space nerd. Find out more about Clare: https://clarediston.com/
The group will be facilitated by Sophia Cheng, who has reorientated her life around the climate crisis, she helps people find their place in the movement through workshops, mentoring and words. Find out more about Sophia: https://www.withmanyroots.com/words/
