Dear All

This is about a meeting on Sunday 12 April. Meetings of Citizens' Climate Lobby are held at 2:30 pm on the second Sunday of each month online. To join click on https://zoom.us/j/3920795005 or copy it into your browser's top window.

If you do not have a computer and webcam you can join by phone. Just ring whichever of the following numbers is not busy: 1800 893 423, 02 8015 6011, 03 7018 2005, 08 7150 1149.

At 2:30 pm, we have the meeting to discuss progress with raising awareness of the coming climate catastrophe and actions to mitigate the consequences of global warming.

I am pleased to announce that we have a guest speaker, Professor Michael Box. The title of his talk is "The Science and the Challenges of Geoengineering". Michael will discuss environmental manipulation to counteract anthropogenic climate change. He will highlight one method, which is to inject aerosols into the stratosphere to increase the amount of reflected sunlight.

During the meeting, we introduce ourselves, tell of any good news, and long-time members explain to newcomers how Citizens' Climate Lobby advocacy for action on climate change complements protest demonstrations.

You will have opportunities to have your say.

Professor Box is internationally respected for his research in atmospheric physics, particularly in the fields of atmospheric radiation and remote sensing, as well as the properties and effects of aerosol particles. He worked for NASA, before returning to Australia to join the School of Physics, UNSW. He is co-author with his wife, Gail, of Physics of Radiation and Climate. The book is difficult, but Michael is also an expert at non-technical science communication.

Generally we entertain, educate and support each other in raising public awareness about the seriousness and urgency of acting to find solutions to the climate disruption problem by

  • proposing a brilliant method of pricing fossil fuels
  • helping each other with writing letters to newspapers and to community leaders
  • form well-thought-out strategies for meetings with community leaders, including politicians, especially to encourage consensus on the urgent need to stem carbon emissions.

Hoping to see you there!

  • Outreach
  • Educate each other on the science and politics accelerating the transition to a fossil-free economy, and the urgent need for the acceleration.
  • Phone contacts
  • Show amusing video

All welcome to join Citizens' Climate Lobby. https://au.citizensclimatelobby.org/join-citizens-climate-lobby/?tfa_1=Australia You won't be bombarded with emails. Engagement can be at any level. We need more hands on deck because the task is enormous.

Scientists' recommendation of world average 1.5ºC of warming above the pre-industrial level will still make life very difficult for our children. Currently average is 1.1ºC; Australian average is 1.4ºC. Two degrees is disastrous. Current Paris targets would give 3ºC - a catastrophe.
