What we’re about
Cloud Native Computing means to create and drive the adoption of a new computing paradigm that is optimized for modern distributed systems environments capable of scaling to tens of thousands of self healing multi-tenant nodes. We are committed to advancing the development of cloud native technology and services by creating a new set of common container technologies informed by technical merit and end user value, and inspired by Internet-scale computing.
There are many open source projects running under the umbrella of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation: Kubernetes, Prometheus, OpenTracing, Fluentd, Linkerd, gRPC, CoreDNS, Containerd, rkt
This meeting is open to everyone wanting to learn about these projects, both newbies and experts, committed to share their experiences and help others learn.

As teased at the last meetup, Tobias will introduce his newest open-source product, Servala.com, and provide an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour. Without all the many powerful cloud native tools, Servala wouldn't exist. In this talk, you'll learn the technical details and get an exciting look under the hood. It includes technical demos, involving the bits and pieces of Servala: Crossplane, Kubernetes, Helm, a Python Django application, and an interesting architecture to enable a multi-tenant cross-cloud services hub. You'll learn what it means to operate services at scale, including all the intriguing day-2 operations challenges.
Tobias Brunner is CTO, Product Manager, and Partner at VSHN (pronounced ˈvɪʒn like "vision"), Switzerland's leading DevOps, Kubernetes, OpenShift, and 24/7 cloud operations partner. VSHN is the first Swiss Kubernetes Certified Service Provider. In his role, Tobias is responsible for continuously innovating, developing new products and services, and bringing new technology to our customers and partners. With over 20 years of experience in IT, Tobias has enormous knowledge and expertise to deliver large-scale projects successfully. He's a frequent speaker at local Meetups and conferences in the Cloud Native space.
Kubernetes cost monitoring and management with KubeCost, Niklaus Hirt, IBM.
The session will introduce the challenges that Kubernetes environments pose for IT professionals. We will then see how Kubecost can help resolve some of these challenges, with a focus on the "Foundations" (free) version and a short demo of its capabilities. To round things up, we'll do a quick comparison between the Open Core and the commercial versions.
Niklaus Hirt has been passionate about tech for over 40 years and started programming at 11. After graduating in computer science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL), he has been working in the domain of software development and software quality assurance as a team lead. He joined IBM 2010, specializing in DevOps transformations focusing on container platforms. Today, Niklaus mainly specializes in AIOps and IT Financial Management. He has been a speaker at national and international events and is recognized outside of IBM for his expertise on those topics. In addition, he has been a lecturer at the Hochschule Luzern (HSLU) for over 6 years.
