Build run and manage composite apps on Kubernetes with Cellery - Paul Fremantle, WSO2

A common pattern in cloud native applications is a composite application - one made up of multiple microservices. Cellery is an emerging project that defines composites in code not YAML, and compiles them into images. The benefits of this are type safety, tab completion, code validation, compilation and immutability. These images are then pushed/pulled, tested, deployed, run, managed and monitored. The session will be a live demo of Cellery together with a few slides outlining where the project is going and how you can help influence its direction.

Paul Fremantle is the CTO and co-founder of WSO2. Paul has a long history of working in open source and middleware and has been a member of Apache for over 10 years.

Most recently Paul completed a PhD looking at how personal middleware can improve IoT security and privacy.

Paul is a visiting lecturer at the University of Oxford. He has published a number of peer reviewed articles, co-authored three books, and has two patents.

Your Kernel and You - How cgroups make containers possible - Marc Cluet, Nationwide Building Society

Always wanted to know more about how cgroups work in Linux, where do they come from and how they shape the way we do containers nowadays? Look no further!
In this talk Marc will try to give you a bit of history of cgroups, where the idea comes from (the answer might surprise you) and how cgroups have evolved over time.

Marc Cluet is a DevOps practitioner and a grumpy Engineer in general, he was "the Ruby Guy" at Canonical for a couple years while he was on the Ubuntu server team, he was involved in the initial integration of cgroups and other projects like Juju (which explains his high-functioning alcoholism). He’s also one of the core-organisers of the London DevOps Meetup group.
