Topic: Answering life's biggest question: Who am I?
A guide on how to train the mind to get what you want
Presenter: Stephen L. Gillum
Quiet the mind, relieve stress and find peace with meditation. The focus will be on going deeper into stilling the mind with guided meditation and walking meditation. Using three easy steps to shift awareness from thinking to presence, we will also explore the nature of consciousness and ego and discuss the difference between the two. The approach is non-theistic and draws on Ekhart Tolle's ideas on mind observation and presence, as well as on silent illumination.
Stephen Gillum has studied and practiced meditation for more than thirty-five years, a calling that grew out of his initial training as a yoga instructor. He spent considerable time studying in India, including living in an ashram. His mentors included Swami Lakshman joo, then the world's leading authority on Kashmir Shivism; Dr. V.G. Kulkarni, with whom he studied mantra and meditation; and Shunryu Suzuki and Edio Shimano from whom he learned Zen meditation. He is certified to instruct mantric meditation, but has developed his own non- theistic style that fuses Ekhart Tolle, Zen and Yoga, with focus on relaxing the mind.
He teaches at the University of South Florida, The Ringling College of Art Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and Garden of the Heart Yoga in Sarasota, Florida.
