Topic: Creating and Designing Online Learning

Presented by: Ingrid Bens, GSCA Member

TIME: The meeting will begin at 11:30 am and continue till 1:30 pm. To make the most and best of our allotted time together, please plan to arrive as close to 11:30 as possible so the kitchen can receive our lunch choices by 11:45. This will allow maximum time for presentations and networking.

Presentation Description:
Over the last decade, a seismic shift has occurred in the world of learning. Training that had historically been conducted live took to the internet.

At first people scoffed. It was seen as inferior, a poor substitute for in-person instruction. Today all that has changed as even the most prestigious universities have adopted online learning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

This change has swept through the corporate sector as well. Previously, employee training involved bringing in a trainer and taking people away from their jobs to sit in a classroom. With online courses, employees can look at required materials whenever they have the time.

So, is this training as effective as in-person learning? Who benefits the most from this shift: the schools or the students / the corporations or the employees? Is this a fad or is it the way of the future?

In this session, we’ll explore these questions and more. We’ll look at both the educational and corporate sectors. This includes how courses are developed, marketed and sold. We’ll also talk about which topics are hot and which ones are not.

This session will be of special interest to anyone who has been thinking about building an online course. We’ll talk about both expensive and cheap ways to build courses, and ways to make money or give your content away for free.
