Asheville's National Day of Civic Hacking

Details

Join Code for Asheville as we celebrate National Day of Civic Hacking! Anyone can participate -- you don't have to be a tech expert. You just have to care about Asheville and making us a better community.

We'll have three breakout sessions:

PATRICK CONANT and JESSE MICHEL will be leading a workshop on the City's open data, including the Open Data Portal and Sunshine Request. Find out what open data is and how to get your hands on it. No experience needed. (1.5 hours)

Next up, GEORGE COLLIER will be leading a lightning tutorial on data science. How do you analyze the data and turn it from mere numbers into meaningful information? He'll show us a typical process for analyzing data and introduce us to some widely used free tools. (1.5 hours)

Meanwhile, MELANIE MAZANEC will be leading a community mapping activity. Learn about data visualization and about what's going in Asheville, as we explore which of Asheville's many organizations are working on which problems and build a big picture of who's doing what. (3 hours)

Price: FREE.

Registration is not required, but if you let us know you're coming, it will help us know how many people to plan for.

Location: Sandburg Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Church at 1 Edwin Place (the corner of Charlotte and Edwin). Take the N bus toward Grove Park Inn, and get off right before it turns off Charlotte. The church is across the street.
