What we're about

Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer opportunity? Code for PDX is here to help! We are designers, developers, and product managers, both experts and learners, coming together to make our city better for everyone. We welcome all skill levels and disciplines - no coding experience is necessary.

Code for PDX is a Code for America Brigade, or local chapter, focused on improving the lives of residents of Portland. Code for PDX is made up of individuals who are interested in changing Portland for the better. We work with local government to fix local services, utilize open data to improve citizen knowledge, and work for the betterment of all. We are just getting started, so there are plenty of opportunities to use your skills. Even if you are not a tech type, we can still have opportunities for you to contribute. So come by and become part of a movement to improve our community!

Find us at https://www.codeforpdx.org/ and come to our Monthly Product Demo Nights (check the Events page for the next one).

Monthly Product Demo Night

Online event

Join us for our monthly product demo night! Our product development teams meet weekly for work sessions, and once a month we all come together to catch up, see what's new with our products, and welcome new volunteers. AGENDA ∙ General announcements ∙ Portland Civic Tech Star of the Month ∙ Product demos ∙ New volunteer introductions and Slack signup ∙ Q&A REGISTRATION We'll send the video link to the RSVP list an hour before the event starts. If you're new to Code for PDX, demo night is the perfect time for you to check out what we're working on, see what product sparks your interest, and join a team. Here's the scoop: 👉 We build civic tech products that solve local problems. Every product has a product manager who coordinates the work of all the contributing volunteers, as well as the requirements from the community partner, a local non-profit or government agency, who will use the finished product. 👉 Our products use a Flask, ReactJS stack, as well as HTML and CSS. And we don't just need developers - we also need UX Designers, Project Managers, and Product Managers! 👉 All skill levels are welcome, this is an inclusive learning experience for everyone. 👉 For more information, check out our website (which is also a project, so if you have ideas for it, come and contribute!): https://www.codeforpdx.org/ QUESTIONS? Civic Tech Pitch Night

Online event

You're invited to Code for PDX's Civic Tech Pitch Night! Who: You Beautiful Nerds What: A civic tech project pitch night! To aid in our mission to be a community driven civic tech organization, we want to provide you with an opportunity to bring your ideas to the table. So put together a short pitch, and let’s talk! Where: On Zoom (link will be posted here an hour before the event starts) How: Here is how it's going to work! You will need to bring a two minute presentation. The presentation should include the following: ∙ The issue you would like to help resolve ∙ The people you would like to work with (i.e. government agencies and/or nonprofits) ∙ How you would solve the problem (it would be good to limit the scope) ∙ Any other information you would like to include. (i.e. proposed technology stack) ∙ A little bit about yourself Need Inspiration: Checkout projects on Democracy lab (www.democracylab.org), CodeforAmerica (www.codeforamerica.org), or try some of our sister brigades like www.hackforla.org, www.codeforphilly.org, www.codeforboston.com We will consider each project based on feasibility, community partnership, and mission. The winning projects will become part of our Season 2 project slate and will be a featured part of our Project Nights. If you have any questions, please let @Katrina Sperry know.
