We want your help - the only skills you need are the ability to do research, curate of information, and think critically (but in a positive and constructive way :)
There may be some programming involved depending on how far the action items below get, but most participants won't need to have any development experience.
Started in 2013, this is a day of action led by Code for America that brings together civic leaders, public servants, concerned citizens, designers, story tellers, technologists, and data scientists to partner with our local governments and tackle some of our toughest challenges.
On September 12th, Code for BTV (plus 85 other brigades across the US), and Code for America staff are going to be hosting:
*> 11pm ET - Unofficial CourtBot Panel discussion!
*> 12pm ET - A Kick Off Event: Code for America will be hosting a virtual kickoff event for 2020 NDoCH with keynote speakers and/or a panel discussion. This event will look to discuss topics such as the power of collective action, the current state of the social safety net, particularly in response to COVID, and needs around how we can make the social safety net stronger and empower our communities.
*> 1pm - 6pm ET - Three Actions for the Day: This year, we are participating in three coordinated actions with the rest of the Brigade Network, in an effort to expose gaps in the current delivery of Social Safety Net services (with the hopes that exposing these gaps will help government to better serve our communities), and help people find resources given that these gaps exist.
*> 6pm ET - Closing Ceremony
The three actions we will be taking are:
-
Complete a Design Audit of our state's benefits applications
-
Build a local asset map to support and empower Vermonters
-
Building a better user interface to navigate the data collected in action two.
Each action will have a dedicated Zoom and Slack channel supported on a national level. In addition we will have a local Zoom room and leader to lead the action for our Vermont-specific efforts.
These actions were designed and decided upon by the National Day of Civic Hacking Committee, the Network Team, members of the National Advisory Council, and Code for America’s Social Safety Net Team
