March 20th, join us for a virtual event to observe International Open Data Day to explore social justice for the people of Vermont by finding, compiling, and analyzing data. No prior knowledge or skills required.
We call this the "Equity Counts Project" and it will explore social justice in Vermont, through data, as related to different key populations.
This year for Open Data Day the population we wish to support is "New Americans."
We will focus on topics such as, for New Americans...
- What are the measurable impacts of COVID?
- Are testing and vaccination information and sign-up options from the state providing equitable access?
- Where do we need to focus on new housing or childcare to support greater social equity?
- How many have equitable access to expungement or civil court?
The event will start with a guided group exploration and discussion to identify priorities in the data, and transition into an open working session where we seek, compile, and try to answer some of these questions.
10:30 - 11:40 > Collective exploration of priorities
12:00 - 4 > Research, Compile, Analyze, Share data
This is only a beginning and will start a longer term effort to produce open data that supports social justice for all of our Vermont neighbors and family.
All are welcome. All you need is a computer and an internet connection. Besides contributing to collective brainpower during brainstorming, we’ll need help with searching for existing data (using Google, Bing), collecting and compiling data (using Google Sheets, Excel, text editors, Github), and analyzing data (mapping, charting, statistics).
