Codeup Chester - VR Guest Speaker
Details
VR Guest Speaker - Adam Hughes
As usual December's Codeup Chester is on the third Tuesday of the month at Storyhouse on Hunter Street, Chester (the reading room on the first floor).
The Codeup Chester Meetup is suitable for anyone from complete beginners, who have never written a line of code, to experienced developers.
We are proud to announce that for the first time time we will be hosting a guest speaker, who will explore Virtual Reality on the web. This will be delivered as a live coding and demo session to demonstrate how quickly and easily you can get up and running with WebVR.
Adam Hughes, who is based in Liverpool, currently works at a startup called DigitalBridge in Manchester and has previously worked various award winning agencies in Liverpool.
Adam is a Front-end Developer and experiments in a wide variety of technology including WebVR, games and hybrid applications. He is also involved in a number of side projects and freelances on the side.
Adam writes articles for a popular design blog called Web Designer Depot - https://www.webdesignerdepot.com/author/Adam-Hughes/
He recently wrote an article on Virtual Reality on the web, which includes a tutorial on building a simple Virtual Reality Art Gallery, that will be the basis of his talk at Codeup Chester.
Further Information
What is CodeUp?
CodeUp Chester is a mentoring program for adults who would like to learn how to code for free. Once a month we intend to provide a workspace for people with no programming skills to come and learn the basics, with mentors available to answer your questions and help you on your way.
Our sessions will also be suitable for people with basic skills who need support to develop them, and even for people with intermediate or advanced skills who just want to come along to a space where everyone is immersed in code!
Where will the session be held?
CodeUp Chester meets at Storyhouse, Chester's brand new cultural centre on Hunter Street. This session will be held in the reading room on the first floor. If you need help finding us, ask someone with a Storyhouse lanyard or t-shirt to point you in the right direction.
What do I need to bring with me?
Your own computer, but if you don't have one there will be a few provided for you.
Opportunities
Co-Organisers
We are looking for co-organisers to help run CodeUp Chester on a monthly basis and make it even better. Particularly anyone who is able to help with any of the following:
• Arriving up to half an hour earlier or staying up to half an hour after our sessions to help setting up and/or clearing out the space we use at Storyhouse
• Assistance with social media (monitoring the new Facebook page and Twitter account to promote our sessions and engage with potential audience) and administering the meetup and email account
• Organising talks, guest speakers, workshops, visitors, sponsors, mobilising volunteers
Please get in touch if you’re interested.
Call For Guest Speakers / Workshop Facilitators
If you’d like to deliver a workshop or talk either as an individual or to represent your organisation or group, we are now taking submissions!
This could take any form you like and could literally be on any subject that you think might benefit our community, whether it’s about job opportunities, your experience, certain languages or methods, or... anything else!
Your talk/workshop should be no longer than 45 minutes, but could be much shorter too.
If you’re interested, please email or message with a short description of what you’d like to do, including details of any special equipment, space or other requirements you’d need to deliver the session.
Mentors
Many CodeUp attendees volunteer as mentors for our sessions. This is immeasurably helpful as every person brings different experience, knowledge and personality and I am really thankful for everyone’s individual contributions. It is also a great way to bolster your CV or give something back to junior devs or beginners.
If you would like to be a mentor, there’s no set time commitment or qualifications/experience needed, just get in touch to discuss further.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send a message here or an email to codeupchester@gmail.com , or bring them with you on the night. Hope to see you soon!
