We are CodeYourFuture - a coding school for refugees and asylum seeker that started in London and currently in the process of expanding to Manchester (https://codeyourfuture.io/). In London and Glasgow, we have classes that are following a six-month program learning web development with the aim of placing students in Tech jobs by the end of the course. The classes are a mix of nationalities and backgrounds, and even though most of them had zero-experience with programming when they started, they are already acquiring skills that could open up great opportunities for them. Our first cohort at CodeYourFuture has gained employment in companies like the Financial Times as full-stack developers.
We are now in the process of starting our first class in Manchester, and we're looking for people to help with setting up the school.
At this stage, we already have a group of students that are ready to start the course and we're looking for volunteers to help with teaching the class (HTML, CSS, JS, React and Node -we have an open-sourced syllabus!) or being a mentor and helping students out while they learn. But fear not, you don't need to be a developer to get involved! We also need lots of help with admin tasks, PR, Social Media etc and generally building up our community. This meetup is a way to get more people who'd like to help, and we'll hopefully gather to discuss CYF's idea, what we've been doing in London and Glasgow, and what we want to achieve in Manchester.
Until our first meetup, feel free to contact us for more details at email@example.com.
