Welcome to the CodeForPhoenix National Day of Civic Hacking 2019 Event. It will be held at the ASU Skysong location on Sept 21st, 2019.
What is National Day of Civic Hacking?
National Day of Civic Hacking (NDoCH), which started in 2013, is a day of action led by Code for America that brings together civic leaders, public servants, designers, coders, and data scientists to partner with our local governments and tackle some of our toughest challenges. Our 7th annual NDoCH will be held on September 21, 2019. https://www.codeforamerica.org/events/national-day-of-civic-hacking
What’s new this year?
Unlike previous years, National Day this year will include ‘collective action’ -- which means there is a unifying theme, coordinated actions, and dedicated resources to support those actions, all designed to address a specific issue affecting our communities (read on for more on this year’s theme).
Why are we taking collective action?
Over the last year, common themes have emerged from our Brigade Network (our national network of *mostly* volunteer chapters) on challenges they face locally and opportunities for addressing those challenges.
This year’s focus is in Criminal Justice. Since National Day of Civic Hacking is taking place during National Expungement Week, Code for America Brigades are invited to participate in three prioritized actions related to record clearance in their cities, and to coordinate with National Expungement Week events where applicable.
There will also be opportunities to work on other civic projects:
1. Focus: National Expungement Week: https://www.offtherecord.us/
2. OpenStreetMap Editor Tutorial / Editing Session: https://www.openstreetmap.org/export#map=18/[masked]/[masked]. SmartCities Initiative: Smart Cities folks will be on-hand to discuss their current initiatives
4. Other! Bring Your Own Civic Tech Idea or brainstorm at the event.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and starting the CodeForPhoenix brigade back up.
