What we're about
Patterns of troubled relationships with loved ones often result from codependency (some sufferers may identify as Love Addicts or Love Avoidants). This weekly hour-long meeting creates a safe space for learning and sharing about codependent love, and overcoming the negative results on our relationships.
Come As You Are
RSVPs are not required to attend a meeting (about a dozen people typically attend each meeting). No preparation of any kind is needed. You don't need to bring anything. You may join us at any meeting. It's appreciated if you can arrive a little before the meeting (to reduce distraction by late arrivals), but that is not required - we'd rather have you come late than not at all.
What Happens At The Meetup?
We are men and women (predominantly women). We say a first name we wish to be called when we go around the room at the beginning of the meeting. To help us be fully present for each other, and ourselves, we turn off all electronic devices for this hour. After some preliminary administrative materials are read, and the opening reading is finished, the floor is opened for sharing about our experience, strength, and hope around love addiction and love avoidance; there is no expectation that everyone will necessarily share. Sharing is an opportunity for us to speak our truth; conversations are reserved for after the meeting. Halfway through the meeting a basket is passed for a free-will offering (most folks put a dollar or two in the basket - no donation is ever required). At the end of the meeting attendees are invited to join hands in a circle and recite the Serenity Prayer* (this is optional: anyone not wishing to join the circle, or not wishing to say anything, need do so). After the meeting people may stand around and chat awhile, or leave immediately, as they choose.
God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.
When Is The Meetup?
