Programming Music with Sonic Pi!

Details

NOTE: This meeting is part of the Maryland STEMfest, and annual celebration of all things STEM. See http://marylandstemfestival.org for more information or to find other events.

Sonic Pi is a super-fun program for making some noise and music with your Raspberry Pi, PC or Mac! You write small programs that can play notes, play sound samples, and implement loops to get some rhythms and rhymes. Sonic Pi scales from simple play to impressive public performances! Brock will introduce Sonic Pi and walk through a short tutorial.

If you have a laptop, please bring it to the meeting. See https://sonic-pi.net for installing SonicPi. This will come in handy if wifi is unavailable or slow. If you don't know what to do, just come to the meeting slightly early and we'll help you out.

Important: Ages 7 to 17 are welcome, but children 12 and under MUST be accompanied by an adult for the entire meeting. Bringing a friend or two is fine, but please, no large groups.

Parking: If you're not familiar with Rockville Town Square, please familiarize yourself with the parking options at http://rockvilleparking.com/. The library validates parking for 2 hours if you use the city lots. Since our meetings are slightly longer than 2 hours, you'll have to pay a couple dollars. Another option is to use street parking or the 11 N Washington St lot which are both free.

Metro: If you are coming by metro, exit the station to the left and take the pedestrian bridge over Rockville Pike. Walk straight for block after the bridge and make a right to get to town square.
