Lean Poker @ OTT-One

It's time for Lean Poker to return for an event at OTT-One. They will provide the food and the location. Don't forget to take your laptop (if you can) and your favorite dev tools. IMPORTANT: If you have been at OTT-One before, this is a different office, they moved.

If you don't know Lean Poker, it is a day-long coding challenge that's not only fun but also provides a safe environment in which you can practice continuous deployment and fast delivery of valuable software.

This is how it works: You and a small group of strangers are going to develop a bot in a language of your choice, that plays poker against other bots. The bots start playing at the same time as teams start coding. From that point on the teams aim is to deliver improvements to their bot in tiny iterations to make sure that their robot is always just a tiny bit better than that of other teams. Points are collected through the day by each team, and at the end, we will have a winner.

Networking starts at 9:00 AM, the event will run from 09:30 AM.

Things you should know:

Do I need to be a good poker player?

No, not at all, but it's definitely beneficial to prepare just a bit! If you don't know the rules of poker at all, you can watch a short 4-minute video describing the rules (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnm_V7A-G6c). If you have time you can also try to play in fake money (http://www.247freepoker.com/) online before the Lean Poker event.

Is real money involved?

Definitely NOT! The event is free, and the bots play in virtual chips.

What should I bring to the event?

If you can, please take your laptop. It's not an issue if not everyone has a laptop with them, but most of you should have one.

If you take your laptop please take a few minutes to make sure that your development environment is set up properly for each of the languages you might want to use.

Do I need to register with a team?

NO! Just come to the event, we will create the teams in the beginning of the event based on language preferences.

What programming languages are supported?

Clojure, C++, C#, Elixir, Groovy, Haskell, Java, Node.js, Kotlin, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, Scala and TypeScript are all supported, but you can implement the necessary scaffold for any other language! Please feel free to contact us (http://leanpoker.org/send-email), if you need help with that!
