Under The Lights With SCUBA Lou
This event is $1 per player. The $1 will allow us to play with a new clincher every week as well as to replenish the equipment as needed. A dollar goes a long way! When you arrive, find me to give me $1. You can also pay through Venmo (@SharkWeek). This group is not “cliquey.” We WELCOME EVERYONE. You are not automatically relegated to being a catcher here, but it's a good place to start if you are new to the sport. We all cooperate and trade positions happily in order to get as many innings and reps as possible. TEAM CREATION and LATECOMERS: Batting practice turns into a game as soon as enough members arrive. We will start a 7-inning game as soon as we get the FIRST 16 (8-on-8) attendees or better. We will integrate latecomers into that game up until we reach 24 total (12-on-12). Latecomers beyond 24 will wait until the next game to be integrated. 8-ON-8 Three outfielders Four infielders Batting team provides either a pitcher or a catcher and that player has to make defensive plays 9-ON-9 Three outfielders Six infielders 10-ON-10 Four outfielders Six infielders 11-ON-11 Five outfielders (one plays shallower than all other outfielders) Six infielders 12-ON-12 Five outfielders (one plays shallower than all other outfielders) Six infielders A different player sits out every inning FLOW OF GAME The main goal is to have the least amount of interruptions so that we can get the most out of this Meetup. If you do not agree with a play, you do not have to pull a Billy Martin in the middle of the field. We are here to have fun. We do not start an inning after 7:35 p.m. so that we can turn the field over by 7:45 p.m. We have to be conscientious of the league that plays right after us. So, less dawdle equals more playing time. SAFETY Let's avoid all injuries. Sliding is fine. Tagging is also fine. Taking out a player is a big no-no. If in doubt, give yourself up. Do not, for example, charge the plate with disregard toward the catcher. Yes, hustle! But please do not hurt yourself or someone else. Please familiarize yourself with the field. There are bleachers, light posts, trees. The field is not completely even. Be prepared so that you can remain safe. RSVP GUIDELINES • You must RSVP in order to play. • People who show up but who did RSVP are not guaranteed playing time. • If you RSVP but do not show up, you get one strike. Three strikes and you will be removed from the Meetup. So, if you suddenly cannot make it, please update your RSVP status. That helps everyone. • You must be at least 18 years of age. EQUIPMENT Please bring your own glove. Extra bats are always welcome. You are advised to bring bug spray as well as water. WEATHER CANCELLATIONS We play as long as the weather is 55° F or warmer. Rain, unfortunately, cancels the Meetup. If it rained the night before or even in the morning, I will head to the field to assess its conditions. Shortly thereafter, I will post an update here. Always check on Meetup to see if we are good to go. If you are using the application, I recommend you turn on notifications.
