Sharing Cities Map Jam Melbourne
Details
The Sharing Cities Map Jam hosted by Shareable (http://www.shareable.net) is being held October 12th through the 26th around the world. Join co-hosts Darren Sharp (https://twitter.com/dasharp) (Shareable Australia), Anthony Aisenberg (CrowdSpot (http://www.crowdspot.com.au/)) and Erz Imam (depo8 (http://depo8.com/) & Occasional Butler (http://www.occasionalbutler.com/)) to collaboratively map all the sharing goodness in Melbourne like coworking, makerspaces, public parks, lending libraries, carsharing, bikesharing and more.
Below are suggestions of sharing economy stuff to map in our city. This list is to help us brainstorm and we'll be using it to distribute the work among our map jam group.
Finance - credit unions, public banks, microfinance and local investment, socially responsible investing firms, community currencies, slow money chapters
Production - energy coops, producer coops, community gardens, coworking spaces, urban farms, hacker spaces, maker spaces, art collectives, fab labs, computer kitchens, repair cafes
Land/housing - public parks, open space, community centers, housing coops, community land trusts, intentional communities, cohousing developments
Services - public libraries, carsharing pods, bikesharing stations, worker coops, community or cooperative healthcare, bike kitchens, childcare collectives, preschool coops, timebanks, education coops, free skools, community owned media, infoshops
Distribution - food coops, farmer's markets, op shops/second-hand stores, tool and seed libraries, barter markets, free stores, stationary free boxes and food pantries
Mapping all of the sharing services in our city not only shows that another world is possible--it shows it’s already here. Not to mention that asset maps are powerful organising tools. They make community assets more visible--which creates a foundation for further community development. Higher awareness of shared assets can lead to more collaborations between sharing projects and new project ideas to fill in the gaps.
Thanks to generous co-hosts Anthony Aisenberg for allowing us to utilise mapping platform CrowdSpot (http://crowdspot.com.au) for the #mapjam and Erz Imam for kindly providing the event space at depo8 (http://depo8.com/) coworking Prahran.
Wifi, drinks and snacks will be provided. Please bring smartphone, tablet or laptops so that we can map together in self-organising groups across suggested categories.
