When: 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM

Where: Epicentral Coworking, 415 N Tejon, Colorado Springs, CO
What: We'll begin with networking and dinner from 5:30 to 6:00 PM. At 6:00, we'll have a few announcements and peer Q&A time followed by our presentations. After the presentation and some SWAG, we'll have some time for socializing and additional networking. The CSSUG will provide some drinks while you network.

Our 101 presentation:
Untangling the UNPIVOT, Mark Tillman

CASE Statements are fine for pivoting data, but not ideal. Learn a new way with PIVOT and UNPIVOT: they break some T-SQL rules, and that makes them more fun to work with.

About Mark
Mark A. Tillman is a Business Intelligence Developer for a large law firm and has been an officer for SQL Server Users' Groups for over 4 years, and currently the Treasurer for the Colorado Springs SSUG. Mark has extensive experience with creating stored procedures and using SSRS for reporting, plus experience with writing MDX and creating reports with SSAS cubes.

Our main presentation:
Lessons Learned from a Successful Enterprise Power BI Deployment

Steve Wake

Power BI is an amazing tool for end-user analytics and reporting, but if you don’t architect for it correctly it may not work right as an enterprise reporting solution. Come to this session to get actual implementation details from a real deployment that was completed for a mid-sized company (1,500+ employees) and is being used daily by more than half of the employees after only a few months of being live in production. Using demos and actual documentation you will see what you need to think of for a project like this. We will be covering architecture, implementation, governance, change control, and support to get a Power BI enterprise deployment working successfully from someone that has done it! Azure Analysis Services, Power BI Pro, and Power BI Premium will be discussed and how each is being used in this solution as well.

Steve is currently the Principal BI Developer at Brown and Caldwell and has experience in advertising, media, manufacturing, retail, charities, telecommunications and financial services organizations using the full Microsoft BI stack. Steve is also very involved in the SQL community, speaking at events around the world, blogging at wakebi.com, and is currently Chapter Leader of the Mile Hi Power BI User Group.
