JavaScript driven web maps and Google Web Designer

Thank you to Gary Betchan who had been organizing the meetup until he stepped down recently. We haven't been very active lately but I hope to reenergize the group with a meetup every second Wednesday of the month. We have a new place to meet too--Epicentral at 409 North Tejon, Suite 106. The space is very conducive for meetups and it's a great location for grabbing some dinner before or after.

There are a couple topics planned for the November meetup: Javascript driven mapping and Google Web Designer.

Scooter Wadsworth, a software engineer at Boundless (http://boundlessgeo.com) and instructor at Pikes Peak Community College, will present on how to add dynamic, JavaScript driven web maps to your sites using Leaflet (http://leafletjs.com) and MapBox (http://mapbox.com). We will begin with an introduction of basic mapping concepts and work through building a relatively simple map with markers. Moderate knowledge of JavaScript is assumed.

Local web designer, Danny Castillo, will highlight the features in Google's new Web Designer software. Google Web Designer creates engaging, interactive HTML5-based designs and motion graphics that can run on any device. (https://www.google.com/webdesigner/)

Can't wait to see you next month. We'll plan December's topics during the November meeting, based on interest and ideas.

Cheers,

Karen Dunne

Scooter and Danny did a fantastic and thorough job covering their topics. Big thanks to you guys!

We also talked about future topics and confirmed two essential topics for the next meetup - how to optimize site speed and an intro to CSS. These topics go well together because using CSS can significantly reduce load times.

I do have so much to learn---not used much java so far but know I need to. Looking to learn how to set up interactive payment systems. The customer will want to place a person's name in a document field, as well as other pertinent info. for an award certificate, then led to a payment page and then to a page where they can print it out in full resolution. If anyone knows a program where a GUI can assist a visually gifted but technically(code) challenged webmistress, let me now. I'll be at the meeting as I have so much to learn about dynamic javascript.
