Create your first (simple) VR application

Details

With the recent release of Oculus Go, VR has taken a big step towards being more open for the masses. In honor of that, we'll be running a session to teach you how to create your first (simple) VR application.

Julien has been working in VR with Unity for many years, and he'll be helping you get started building your first VR app for Oculus Go. Bring your laptop and headset (if you have one) and we'll be walking through the process, using Unity and VRTK (the VR Tool Kit). The schedule is as follows:

6:00 Arrive & setup
6:15 Install and set up Android Studio, JDK, etc.*
6:45 Create & compile a simple VR app
7:30 Discuss & add VRTK

  • Please have downloaded and installed the required software before you arrive - see the emailed instructions you received. You need to have basic experience using Unity for this event - there are tutorials online.

You are welcome to skip the beginning 2 sections if you've already used Unity to compile an app for Android. Plan to arrive around 6:30 to go over Oculus Go developer setup.

(RSVPs are limited for to make sure things run smooth. If they run out, you can try https://www.meetup.com/Colorado-Unity-Devs/events/250976647 or wait until the next time we do this.)
