This meetup group has thrived over the past couple years. We started out exploring different comic book art styles, but have since expanded to various art forms and drawing concepts. The focus has remained the same, to push creativity and imagination to its limits! Come join us!
In past meetups, we have explored and shared:
• Drawing basics: pencil sketching, ink, and color rendering
• Anatomy: face, body, hands, proportions, male/female differences, facial expressions, animals
• Dynamic poses
• Light and shading
• Perspective, backgrounds, layout, golden ratio
• Storyboarding and panel style/layouts
• Various comic book art styles: Jim Lee, Moebius, manga, Hyung-Tae Kim, Frank Miller, Tim Burton, Junji Ito, Mike Mignola
• Various other art styles: minimalist, Japanese Sumi-e, Traditional Greek/Roman, scribble art
• Various character designs: Superman, Hellboy, Astroboy, DC supervillains, Wizard of Oz, Homer Simpson, Powerpuff Girls, Popeye, Disney characters, videogame characters
• Creative challenges: 3 min character creation, change style challenge, plant humanoid creation, Asian ghost/zombie creation
All beginners and professionals alike are welcome! Basic tutorials will be provided at the beginning of each session. Most of the time will be reserved for creative challenges, personal artwork, and sharing.
Please bring: 1) iPad Pro with Apple Pencil and Procreate app or other digital tools OR 2) Sketchpad, pencil set, eraser, blending stump (tortillion), brush pen
