Event Description

Investing is simple, but not easy - Warren Buffett

Intro and moderation - Zach Holz

Part 1. Expat Saving & Investing: How to Do It Right – Steve Cronin

Expats have a great chance at reaching Financial Independence – taxes barely get in the way. But other things do. It’s easy to get distracted when saving, to get into debt or get bad advice. Then it’s hard to figure out what to invest in and how to do it yourself. Fear not – here’s a sensible and practical guide to fixing your finances, choosing your investments and setting them up from the UAE.

Part 2. Investing is Not Easy: The Investor Mindset – Andrew Hallam

Warren Buffett has always said investing is simple... but not easy. Investing with index funds takes just 60 minutes a year. You don't need to follow the economy or the stock market, or pay attention to economic forecasts. But investors require a certain mindset to succeed. This mindset is much more important than selecting the right brokerage. It's much more important than selecting the right funds. In fact, it's the most important aspect of successful investing. Learn how to master this mindset, so you can reach Financial Independence most effectively.

Part 3: Sort Out Your Savings Plan: What Went Wrong and How to Fix It – Tuan Phan

A quick look at savings plans and offshore bonds. We demystify their complex structure, fees and conditions, so that you can make an informed choice about what to do next.

About the speaker:

Andrew Hallam might be the world's most sought-after speaker on expat investing. Over the past 16 years, he has given hundreds of talks in more than 20 different countries. He has been investing in the stock market for 30 years, having built a million-dollar portfolio on a school teacher's salary when he was in his late 30s. He's the international bestselling author of Millionaire Teacher (Wiley 2011, 2017) and Millionaire Expat (Wiley 2018). Profiled on CNBC and The Wall Street Journal, he's also the first person to have a #1-selling finance book on Amazon USA and Amazon Canada at the same time. He has written columns for The Globe and Mail, Canadian Business magazine and MoneySense magazine.
