Details

Coderetreat is a day-long, intensive practice event, focusing on the fundamentals of software development and design. By providing developers the opportunity to take part in focused practice, away from the pressures of 'getting things done', the coderetreat format has proven itself to be a highly effective means of skill improvement. Practicing the basic principles of modular and object-oriented design, developers can improve their ability to write code that minimizes the cost of change over time.

We're excited to have 8th Light (https://8thlight.com/) as a co-sponsor. They're helping us provide you a delicious lunch from Émigré Gourmet (https://emigregourmet.weebly.com/), a local worker-owned catering company.

As a reminder, participants in Position Dev events must follow our code of conduct, which you can read here: https://positiondev.com/code-of-conduct.html

We'll introduce everything you need to know on the day of the event, but if you want an idea of what to expect, watch this video: https://vimeo.com/18955165

Also, if you aren't familiar with testing, take some time before the workshop to get acquainted with your favorite language's unit testing framework. For example, if you use Python, you might try out pytest, and if you use Ruby, you'll want to check out rspec. In Javascript, you have several options and any of them will work just fine!

Please bring your laptop to the workshop if you have one.

Travel logistics:
* If you're coming by subway, the closest station is the F stop at York St. From there, head down the hill on Jay St to 20 Jay. The next closest station is the High St A/C station.
* If you're driving, there's sometimes free street parking nearby. There's also a parking garage in the building which has an early bird rate of $19.03 ($10 extra for oversized vehicles). There's also a slightly cheaper parking garage up the street on Jay that costs $16.31 with a $9 oversize fee.

Finally, please fill out this survey if you're attending and haven't yet: https://goo.gl/forms/Bn7rMrtEF0qZJjNk2 This will help us plan and facilitate the event and make sure it's fun and helpful for all participants!
