Hi folks,

We've now completed our talk lineup for our February meetup. We look forward to seeing you all there!

Thanks,

Beccy & Kayleigh

Schedule:

18:30 - Arrive + Pizza

19:00 - Stable Foundations: Programmable Infrastructure Testing with Ruby, Terraform and others - Matt Long

With the rise of DevOps, programmable infrastructure is reaching widespread adoption. However, although automated testing of software is becoming ever more common, the same cannot be said with testing our programmable infrastructure. With microservices making our deployments more and more complex, we can no longer afford to ignore this type of testing. This talk will take a tour through different approaches to infrastructure testing Matt has encountered whilst working as a consultant, using technologies such as Ruby & Terraform, and the lessons learned in the process.

Matt Long is a QA Consultant for OpenCredo, a London-based consultancy specializing in helping clients build and deploy emerging technologies. He is responsible for the testing requirements in a number of OpenCredo engagements, with specialist knowledge in the creation and deployment of automated testing frameworks. Matt works with tools such as Java, Selenium, Cucumber, Ruby, and Gatling. He builds and maintains a machine learning foosball bot in his spare time.

19:40 - What is a Tester? - Shamyla S (https://twitter.com/lifeintest)

SDET; Developer in Test; QA Automation Specialist
The roles above may convey images of a technical superhero fixing broken pipelines and rescuing failing tests. But the term ‘tester’ may not bring about the same connotations.

This talk discusses why having these perceptions of what a tester should or shouldn’t do can be detrimental to individuals and businesses.
The talk will also look at how testing is evolving with regards to artificial intelligence. With the rise of machine learning, testing roles and definitions might never be the same again.

The hashtag for the talk will be #WhatIsATester

20:15 - Networking and Close
