What we're about

Featherfield Farm is an organic farm in Lullymore, Co. Kildare certified by the Organic Trust in Ireland (Licence 1568). We rear and sell organic Dexter beef, lamb, eggs, chicken and honey direct from the farm. For 2019, we have launched our new education centre and demonstration gardens with the aim of getting everyone growing in their own back garden.

Courses for 2019 include:

All courses begin at 9:30am with tea & coffee. 10am course start. 11:30am tea & coffee break followed by a light lunch of soups & breads at 1:30pm. Courses finish at 4:30pm with tea & coffee.

Facilities include parking, toilets, heated classroom & farm shop.

Beginners Bee Keeping with Liam McGarry - two day course

This course is geared for beginners. At the end of this course participants should have enough knowledge to take up beekeeping. During the course we will be working with active hives. Harvesting Honey with Liam McGarry

This course is geared for beekeepers with some experience and have bees. It will be mainly hands on practical beekeeping together with honey and wax recovery. We will be working on active hives. Content will cover apiary management, honey harvesting, wax recovery, using extractors, storage, settling, filtering and bottling. Bee keepers may bring their own supers for honey extraction. All courses begin at 9:30am with tea & coffee. 10am course start. 11:30am tea & coffee break followed by a light lunch of soups & breads at 1:30pm. Courses finish at 4:30pm with tea & coffee. Beginners Poultry Keeping with Julian Pawlowski

An in depth one-day course on poultry keeping for beginners. The course will cover housing requirements of various breeds; health and diet;breeding, breed selection; practical demonstrations. Different breeds and equipment will be available on the day. How to avoid pests and diseases will be covered as will how to properly handle a hen including how to wash and present a hen for poultry shows. All courses begin at 9:30am with tea & coffee. 10am course start. 11:30am tea & coffee break followed by a light lunch of soups & breads at 1:30pm. Courses finish at 4:30pm with tea & coffee. Complete Gardening Course with Klaus Laitenberger - 1 day

This course is suited for anyone who plans to start a food garden. The courses has practical tips and demonstrations on how to prepare the soil and make raised beds, lazy beds, hugel beds, etc. with the two day course going into much more detail. There will be compost-making sessions, seed sowing demonstrations and how to avoid pests and diseases. There will also be a session on growing fruit trees, bushes and herbs. Heated classroom sessions on crop planning, rotations and tips on which crops are best suited for the small garden. All courses begin at 9:30am with tea & coffee. 10am course start. 11:30am tea & coffee break followed by a light lunch of soups & breads at 1:30pm. Courses finish at 4:30pm with tea & coffee.
