CNC Machining Session

Separate from the regular 3D printing session, this session will cover a lot of the other tools that can benefit from Computer Numerical Control.  This session is NOT a good introduction to the space and there will be no tours running.

However, if you have an interest in CNC milling, laser cutting or plotting, this is the session for you.

There will be a short, 20-30 minute presentation on an aspect of CNC operation each session. It may be a general presentation about operational theory or specific instructions on using a piece of software.

The HackerSpace has a range of tools (aside from 3d printers) that use CNC, including our mini-mill, laser cutter and the hackCNC project.

For more information about what's happening each session, check or ask on our google group mailing list.

Our location is a short walk from Glenferrie train station. Car parking at Hawthorn town hall.

I personally thought this session was fantastic. I went from being a complete n00b at CNC machining to at least understanding the basics, at least enough to get me going. Massive thank you to all concerned, you know who you are!

Looking forward to this John. Wish I had something other than my 3d printer to bring, maybe next time :)

Tonight's presentation is "CNC - An Introduction" and is a general look at what CNC is. I'll be starting at 8pm and hopefully it goes for about 20 minutes.

The good news is thanks to Rob B, and a borrowed power supply, my CNC is now working so I will be bringing it in tonight. Really looking forward to this since Im a total CNC Noob.

I would be interested in a opportunity to build and use the HackCNC. i.e. a repeat of the miniconf session I missed.

I've missed not being able to come to 3D nights (I moved house) and was looking forward to this session but alas won't be able to make it as I've been offered some work. Hope to get back into it soon!

I should just mention, if you've never been to the hackerspace before this is not a good session to start and you'd be better off coming to one of our regular Tuesday sessions. I've updated the event description to reflect this.
