What we’re about

Horse Hungry is for horse-crazy women who lack access to horses (up until now!) If you desire connection to horses, to like-minded women, and to your own spirituality, this group is for you.

I'm Kathleen, founder of Horse Hungry, and I invite you to visit peaceful Happy Dog Ranch (HDR) where my horse Qamar lives. Read Qamar's story here.

Participating in Horse Hungry at Happy Dog Ranch (HDR), you will:

• Meet sweet, gentle rescued horses longing for a good grooming

• Meet other horse-crazy women

• Learn to handle horses from the ground: halter, lead, walk, ensure deep connection for a well-mannered horse and a safe experience

• Perform light ranch work in the energizing company of other horse-crazy women

• Enjoy special events designed especially for you, to expand your circle of like-minded women friends,  introduce you to a variety of natural horsemanship practitioners and deepen your passion for horses.

NOTE: Happy Dog Ranch is not a livery stable, it's a non-profit rescue ranch and sanctuary where volunteers are needed to help care for and exercise the horses. *No riding until you meet HDR qualifications.*

Are you horse hungry for a day or for a lifetime?

• You are welcome to attend these scheduled groups as often as fits your schedule.

• There is no pressure to do or be anything other than an occasional participant, ready to feed your horse hunger for a day. You are welcome to just groove on the horses, fresh air and new friends!

• Consistent participation in Horse Hungry builds your skills and confidence.

However, if you decide you want more experience and exposure to the HDR approach to natural horsemanship, consider the following points:

1. If you desire, you can use your Horse Hungry experience to become an HDR volunteer. (You can return to Horse Hungry ranch groups whenever you want, or continue to participate in Horse Hungry as long as you want without becoming an HDR volunteer.)

2. Becoming an HDR volunteer makes you eligible for perks like ground lessons and riding lessons, plus occasional free or reduced admission to various events, clinics, workshops, as well as volunteer appreciation programs.

3. Whether you are a Horse Hungry member or an HDR volunteer, your regular exposure to Bernadette, owner, and Gray and Louise, trainers, helps them assess your growth and readiness for expanded opportunities, including ground and riding lessons.

NOTE: HDR riding lessons are required to become a horse exerciser. Exercisers meet qualifications and work with our trainer.

HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THIS MEETUP:

1. Please see the bottom of each new invitation for upcoming ranch dates. Mark your personal calendar and check back often for invitations and updates so you can RSVP to secure your slot. FYI, when we get a long wait list, I often expand the group, so don't be shy!

2. When you sign up for a meeting, please turn your email option ON and leave it on so you are sure to receive your instructions and directions for the day and any updates like wait list, a change of time or cancellation.

3. If you change your plans, please change your RSVP. People who don't do this lose out on the experience and deprive someone else of a spot in the meeting.

4. On the day of your Horse Hungry group, if you are lost, late, or not coming at the last minute, please text or call me at the phone number given in your confirmation letter.

5. If you do not receive an approval notice (making you a member) or confirmation email (directions, instructions, list of what to bring) or if you stop hearing from this Meetup, please contact me via Meetup Messages. Meetup is imperfect, and so am I - please stay in touch.

Thank you for your consideration on these matters!

Looking forward to meeting you,

Kathleen & Qamar
