The Cookbook Club Potluck is for a those who enjoy cooking, entertaining in their homes, trying different cuisines, and are interested in expanding their culinary skills. We're a small, but active, group who host dinners in our homes and share a collaborative meal from a selected cookbook. Of course, any fun, food-related event is welcome too and we often attend cookbook, chef, or food-inspired lectures and events in the DMV.
About our Group and Potluck Dinners:
• The host/organizer selects a cookbook, picks a date for the dinner, and sets the size of the group. Generally, the host will make the main dish, provide basic beverages, and provide plates and utensils for the meal. Ideally the cookbook will be available from the local library. Attendees should bring serving utensils and any other serving or plating items specific to their dish.
• Attendees should review the selected cookbook and choose at least one item to prepare and bring to the event for a shared meal with the group. Indicate the recipe you intend to bring in your RSVP. It usually works out that there's a variety of appetizers, main dishes, sides, and desserts.
• There is no need to double a recipe -- most people will take just a small portion and there are usually more than enough food items to fill a plate. This said, please do keep in mind the number of RSVPs and the serving size of a particular recipe. A recipe that "serves 2" likely should be doubled or tripled, depending on what the dish is.
• As mentioned above, the host will provide basic beverages, but attendees should bring any beverage, e.g., wine, they'd like to enjoy with the meal, and/or with others.
Hosting Events: Members must be willing to host events! If you don't have room to host at home, that's ok! Events can be held at a restaurant, winery, clubhouse -- you name it! Please let me know when you'd like to set up an event and I'll make you an event organizer so that you can manage the details.
Participation: This group will only work if everyone participates -- both attending events and hosting events. We're intentionally a small but active group. And we're hosting events in our homes please so please give the host and other attendees the courtesy of an up-dated RSVP. Anyone who registers for the group but never attends an event, no-shows, and those with chronic late cancellations will be removed from the group. It's simply a matter of courtesy to others.
Mini Chefs: While we all love children, please know that this is an adults-only group.
Food Allergies: Because potluck dishes are made in the kitchens of the participants, please note that there are no guarantees that these dishes are free of peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, milk, eggs, soy, fish, shellfish or other allergens. Apologies, but this probably isn't the best group for those with food allergies!
