Who are we?
Local people taking care of wildlife and sharing our passion and knowledge in a practical and fun way in the parish of Cookham.
What are we doing?
· Planning a calendar of local events and activities such as guided walks and talks
· Running practical campaigns and initiatives to enrich habitats such as:
> o Wildlife and natural gardening – educating people about the importance of their gardens and creating wildlife corridors through gardens for hedgehogs and many other animals. Promoting the use of natural and non-chemical substances in the garden.
> o Leaving verges and meadows long, not cutting until after flowers have seeded, and planting wildflowers on verges as food sources for bees and other insects
> o Not cutting hedges and trees between Feb and Aug while birds are still nesting
> o Securing habitat and nest boxes for certain birds such as House Martins and encouraging the use of Swift bricks in new-build properties
> o Reducing light pollution
· Offering wildlife advice and building a community of interest through a dedicated wildlife forum on cookham.com

Bird Ringing at Woolly Firs
Due to poor weather this event will now be a talk about bird ringing as it won't be possible to ring the birds in such wet weather. There will no longer be a £6 charge, but a £3 donation is always welcome.
Berks, Bucks & Oxon Wildlife Trust have kindly offered to host us to explain their winter ringing activities. We will be able to see methods used to attract the birds and process them for future monitoring purposes. Typical woodland species are the ones usually caught.
Donations to www.justgiving.com/wildcookham or bring cash on the day. Tea & coffee will be available on arrival.
By chance, our good friend Martin Woolner, and BBOWT’s Tricia Marcouse, will be delivering a session, just after our two-hour visit, on conifer tree identification (10:30) so if you would like to attend that too whilst on site, please book this one at bbowt.org.uk/events

What's About on Marsh Meadow?
Cookham Moor, High Street, Cookham, Cookham, sc, GBJoin John Harris for a midweek walk over Marsh Meadow and surrounding habitats to see 'Whats About'.
The pond, river, fields and hedgerows will be active with resident and winter birds, and any early plants in flower may be hosting a number of different insect species.
We will be parking in the National Trust Car Park on The Moor (SL6 9SG) and remember, there is a payment machine (£2 per session) at the far end of the car park.

How Birds Work. Part II.
Cookham Dean Village Hall, Hills Lane, Cookham Dean, Cookham, GBWildCookham invites you to Cookham Dean Village Hall at 7:30pm on March 16th for Part II of Brian Clews' talk on 'How Birds Work'.
Looking at how they build their homes, feed their families and generally put themselves about, this will be a fascinating evening.
The Hall is on Church Road, Cookham Dean, SL6 9PY, and do bring a torch as there is limited street lighting there. As usual, donations (suggest £3) via https://www.justgiving.com/wildcookham or bring cash on the night for the donations box.
