Who are we?
Local people taking care of wildlife and sharing our passion and knowledge in a practical and fun way in the parish of Cookham.
What are we doing?
· Planning a calendar of local events and activities such as guided walks and talks
· Running practical campaigns and initiatives to enrich habitats such as:
> o Wildlife and natural gardening – educating people about the importance of their gardens and creating wildlife corridors through gardens for hedgehogs and many other animals. Promoting the use of natural and non-chemical substances in the garden.
> o Leaving verges and meadows long, not cutting until after flowers have seeded, and planting wildflowers on verges as food sources for bees and other insects
> o Not cutting hedges and trees between Feb and Aug while birds are still nesting
> o Securing habitat and nest boxes for certain birds such as House Martins and encouraging the use of Swift bricks in new-build properties
> o Reducing light pollution
· Offering wildlife advice and building a community of interest through a dedicated wildlife forum on cookham.com

Pond Dipping Event
Cookham Moor National Trust Car Park, Cookham, GBWildCookham will be holding a pond dipping session this coming June on:
Saturday 13th June 2026 – Meet in NT car park on Cookham Moor 10:00
Come and see what can be found living below and sometimes on the surface of our local pond on Marsh Meadow (next to the Cookham Moor).
Supervised by experts from WildCookham this will be an exciting and educational morning open to all ages. If children wish to come please ensure they are accompanied by one parent or guardian, who will be responsible for those children at all times.
We should finish by 11:30 to 12:00 and all equipment will be provided.
Interested participants should email their interest to wildcookham@gmail.com giving the names of all wishing to come and giving a contact email address and Tel number. We will be limiting the numbers to 10 and spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served, basis. Do not try to sign up on this page!The cost of this event is £5 per person. Cockmarsh - its Trees, Plants and Butteflies
Winter Hill Car Park, Winter Hill, Cookham, GBJoin Clare and Andrew Padmore on their annual walk down to Cock Marsh to see 'What's About'.
Park at the National Trust Viewpoint along Winter Hill, North-east of its junction with Startins Lane (SU871861) and look for the party gathering to go down the slope towards the Marsh.
One of our longer walks, and on rough ground in places so wear suitable shoes. Check the weather forecast to be suitably attired on the day. Bring binoculars and cameras if you have them.

Nature Walk around Little Harwood
Little Harwood, Choke Lane, Cookham, al, GBFollowing our two recent Bluebell walks at this beautiful site, when other plant and insect species are a little few and far between, owners David and Margaret Harrold have invited us back to see 'What's About' in summer-time.
Parking restricts the number of guests we can accommodate so please do travel with other attendees if possible. This is a private garden, so please, no dogs.

Butterfly Walk through Maidenhead Thicket
The Shire Horse,, Bath Road, Maidenhead, SL6 3QA, Littlewick Green, GBJoin Andrew Padmore for our annual butterfly hunt in the Thicket, and of course whatever other wildlife might be seen as we go around. We meet at the Shire Horse car park for a 10:30 start, using the spaces most distant from the pub itself to be of less inconvenience for customers. (A4 Bath Road at SL6 3QA). Check the weather on the day and come suitably attired, and don't forget your bins!
