Copenhagen Hardware Alliance Meetup #6: Open source hardware

Welcome to the 6th Copenhagen Hardware Alliance Meetup, where our theme will be: Open source hardware.

Open source hardware is hardware whose design is made publicly available so that anyone can study, modify, distribute, make, and sell the design or hardware based on that design.
This radical approach - a distributed design practice - allows for crowdsourcing and co-development of the hardware and, if successfully done, a community of co-creators can take shape to help the originator accelerate the development of the hardware. This allows for several benefits: a quicker innovation cycle, lower development costs, higher quality/better bug-finding and more - but also challenges existing business models, intellectual property and organizational structures.

A this meeting we'll have showcasses of Danish open source-based products, hear about experiments in new open source hardware business models and discuss how YOU can take advantage of this phenomenon in your business and practice.

** PROGRAM **

14.00 - Welcome, introduction to open source hardware and introduction to our kind host, Stykka.

14.30 - Live demo's: Tekpartner and Stykka gives demos of open source-based products that they are currently developing.

15.00 - Learnings from Denmark's recent open source hardware business model program, REMODEL, by Danish Design Centre.

15.15 - Discussion - how can Copenhagen's ecosystem of hardware startups explore the opportunities of open source hardware and new business models?

15.45 - Announcements/open mic - announce any hardware-related news from anyone. Among other things hear a short pitch from Teknologisk Institut's team behind their new hardware incubator.
